Welcome home...

We had a fabulous time in Mexico. It was a little hard to come back to the cold, although it did rain quite a bit when we were there.

On the day we took the ferry to Cozumel, there was a big storm. Several times, it seemed as if the boat was going to tip. On the way there, we sat in the back so we wouldn't get sea sick. (They were handing out bags to all the passengers on the boat). We ended up getting soaked. Without a change of clothes, it was very, very cold walking around in the rain. We bought a couple of shirts from a small shop--a hand embroidered traditional shirt for me and a soccer shirt for B with the colors of the Mexican flag. Those shirts saved us. We had a lot of fun on our little adventure in the rain.

Another highlight was seeing the Mayan ruins of Coba. We had a little adventure the day we went, because we decided to rent a jeep and drive to the ruins. They were about two hours from Playa Del Carmen and we got to see a few small villages on the way.

Built between two lakes during the Classic Period (600-900 A.D.) it was at one time a very large city spread over 80 square kilometers. The main pyramid, Nohoch Mul meaning 'large hill', is 42 meters tall (138 feet) and is the highest in the Yucatan peninsula.

We first rented bikes and took a leisurly ride through the other smaller ruins. I knew if I walked the 3+ miles there, it would be unlikely I would be able to climb the pyramid with my ankle still hurting. It took me a long time to get up, and even longer to climb down, but I did it. The views from the top were spectacular.

We spent the sunny days sitting on the beach and reading. And for 15 glorious minutes, we went parasailing and got to fly above the coast. That was so much fun. I'm so thankful that we got to go.
